The 12-times league champion APR is set to kick off the season with high morale after lifting the Primus Cup title, the season’s curtain-raiser. They saw off AS Kigali 3-1 in the final on Sunday.

A brace from Selemani Ndikumana and Papy Faty helped the military side to win their first trophy of the season ahead of what promised to be a challenging 2011/12 season, especially in the continent championship, the CAF Champions League.

After the four-day tournament, APR scored 10 goals in three matches conceding only one goal. New signings Dan Wagaluka, Olivier Karekezi, Faty and Ndikumana were all impressive and could play a big part in the team’s ambitions on the continent.

The military side pocketed Bralirwa’s cash prize worth Rwf 5m, while AS Kigali and Police pocketed Rwf 3m and Rwf 1m respectively.

League champions APR start the defence of their title against newly promoted side and Western Province representatives Espoir Fc on Saturday.
