Reducing taxes not enough

Editor,

The Minister of Labour while appearing before the Senator, last Tuesday pledged to press the taxman to reduce the taxes on teachers’ salaries to enable them retain a reasonable take home.

I wish to commend the minister for the gesture. This should however not mean that the government gives up its efforts to improve teachers salaries.

Reducing taxes is worthwhile, but a certain increment is needed to help teachers cope with the rising cost of living.
