As thousands of hungry Somalis seek for solace in neighbouring countries, East Africa’s Tusker Project Fame Star, Alpha Rwirangira, has on embarked on a campaign to support the refugees in Northern Kenya.
Alpha’s latest single, ‘Mwana wa Africa’ that is due out soon, will lead the campaign alongside other of his songs.
The 25-year-old is finalising plans to perform several concerts in East Africa, along along with some regional artistes.
In an interview, Alpha told The New Times that all the proceeds from the concerts would be dedicated to Somalia. The singer is also working with some NGOs to support the project.
“I believe that an artiste should do more than just entertaining people for bread,” he says.
“Possibly from September, I will organise several concerts with some East African artistes to raise enough funds. I have been contacting several NGOs too, and right now, they are still promising.”
The ‘Songa mbere’ star is expected to travel to Nairobi, Kenya this week to finalize talks with probable co-performers.
Alpha has worked with several East African artistes including Tanzania’s AY and Uganda’s Bebe Cool and Mun G.
