Beach volleyballers lose to Kenya in final

KENYA made the most of home advantage as they reigned supreme in yesterday’s CAVB Continental Cup Group D final at Nyali Beach in Mombasa.The hosts beat their Rwandan opponents in both categories; men and women to win the tournament which had attracted ten countries.

The hosts beat their Rwandan opponents in both categories; men and women to win the tournament which had attracted ten countries.

Flavien Ndamukunda & Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma featured in the men’s category while Charlotte Nzayisenga and Judith Hakizimana competed in the ladies’ fray.

In Group A, Morocco came out on top in Free Town, Sierra Leone as the zonal qualifying phase of the London 2012 Olympic Games continued.

Mozambique claimed Group E.

Despite the defeat, Rwanda still secured a slot in the final qualifying round which will be held in October alongside Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda in the ladies category and Kenya, Egypt and Burundi in the men’s category.

Nine other zonal winners will qualify for the final phase, where the winner will secure a ticket to the Games.
