Old taxis are becoming dangerous

Editor,

The old public service vehicles (taxis), most especially those on the Remera-Nyabugogo route are a mess.

They are so old and outdated that when they move, they pollute the air and make such a deafening noise.

I tried boarding one and decided to sit at the front, but I was disappointed because the door almost fell off when I opened it.

The door was so old with several sharp metals (probably from a previous accident or poor mechanical repairs) protruding from the torn rubber that purported to conceal the wreck.

Worse still, these metals were so rusted that if someone was unfortunate to get scratched or cut in the process of boarding or evacuating the taxi, the person would stand a high risk of getting infected with the killer disease,Tetanus.

Usually, while using these very old taxis, passengers are squeezed in and air-conditioning is close to zero, as the windows cannot be opened due to the rust that has kept them stuck in place for years.

Given this alarming situation, I think it’s high time that coasters were introduced on all city routes leading to Nyabugogo.
