Disi Dieudonne has identified Evans Kiprop as his major threat ahead of Sunday’s international half marathon race in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Kiprop is said to have made a late entry into the race and Disi knows that he will have to be at his best against the Kenyan .
“It is definitely a big test for me because Kiprop is one of the leading athletes in the world,” Disi reckoned.
“I didn’t expect him to compete in this race (San Juan) but he called me on Tuesday telling me that he would be there,” the country’s top athlete continued.
Last year, Kiprop out competed Disi in the World road running championship that was held in Udine, Italy. Kiprop finished third while Disi settled for sixth place.
On top of Sunday’s event (San Juan half marathon), Disi is also expected to compete in the Dubai half marathon and the ‘best 10km race’ events within a space of four weeks.
Rwanda’s top athlete Disi flew to Puerto Rico on Monday to take part in the February 3 San Juan half marathon.
Before his departure, the 27-year-old who has been training in the Northern Province told Times Sport that he is in good shape for the marathon.
“I feel ready for the challenge,” he said.
Disi enjoyed a splendid 2007 season and wants to make 2008 a replica.
He registered five podium performances in the Remisi half Marathon in France, 16km in Paris, New Delhi half marathon in India, Lagos half marathon in Nigeria and Ivory Coast’s Abidjan half marathon.
He also finished 6th in the world half marathon that was staged in Udine, Italy last November.
Despite plenty of success, Disi has called it quits to cross country events and is set to miss IAAF’s premier 2008 event ‘Edinburgh world cross country Championship’ in March.
