Wishing all my Muslim compatriots a great Eid

Editor,

I want to take the opportunity to wish my Muslim brothers and sisters a wonderful Eid. After the holy month of Ramadan, I’m sure that you all feel closer to Allah. I shall take the opportunity to visit a Muslim family to partake in the wonderful meal that is shared by one and all.

Eid will be celebrated in some countries this Saturday September 11th, and instead of it being a day where people come together to share their common humanity, some foolish Florida pastor, with a flock of just 50 people, has decided to make it a ‘Burn a Koran Day’. Terry Jones is an embarrassment to all true Christians around the world.

He’s masking his prejudice under the guise of free speech and religious freedom. I urge my Muslim brothers and sisters to ignore this rabble-rouser. He’s merely looking for his five minutes of fame. Sadly, that’s exactly what he’s getting.

The one God that we all worship whether we call Him Jehovah, Yahweh or Allah can defend Himself against the evil of man. Vengeance is His.

Islam is a beautiful religion. Islam means ‘peace’. Those that equate it to terrorism have no understanding of what beautiful religion it is. Mankind has often used religion to justify horrendous acts; yes, even Christians have done that. Just look at the Inquisition, the Crusades and slavery.

No one is without sin. Let us look for the common humanity that we share and not the simplest differences. The blood we bleed is red; each and every one of us. Let us never forget that.
