I think that whoever is planning Tigo’s growth curve is a genius. This can be clearly seen by the fact that it has overtaken Rwandatel as the second biggest mobile phone company despite the fact that it’s the newest entrant in the local market. Now that it has become a favorite of young people in urban Rwanda, Tigo is moving into rural Rwanda as well.
While urban Rwandans on average make more money, per capita, than rural Rwandans, eighty percent of the population is found in these areas.
So, whoever can become the chosen ‘one’ of rural Rwandans will make a killing. The best part of all this competition is the fact that it is us, the customers, who benefit from all this through lower prices and better services.
I urge ALL mobile phone services providers to enter the rural market. It is my wish that everyone, not only urban folk, enjoy the wonders of wireless telephony.
