In a campaign rally that took place both in Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts yesterday, the Presidential candidate for the Liberal Party (PL), Prosper Higoro, promised to increase the number of agro factories so that the people can benefit from value added products.

Speaking at Bugarama in Rusizi district, the candidate promised to increase rice, tea and coffee production as well as construct and improve processing factories for these products.

Higiro said that since agriculture is the backbone of Rwanda’s economy, he intends to implement better methods of farming by employing more agronomists to train farmers on proper farming for better yields.

He said that the banana crop would not be left out as well.
If elected to power, Higiro promised to pull Rusizi and Kamembe out of poverty through supporting tourism, improvising ways of yielding more from Lake Kivu as well as facilitating trade between residents and their counterparts in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The PL candidate also pledged to develop the youth by setting up profit making co-operatives. He went on to say that he would put more effort in basic education as well as ensure good health for all citizens.

“In seven years to come, every health centre will be headed by a qualified doctor if you entrust me with your votes,” Higiro said.

The rallies were attended by about 250 people in Nyamasheke and over 700 in Rusizi.

Higiro was flanked by PL president, Protais Mitali, and Vice President, Odette Nyiramirimo, among other top party leaders.
