APR eye top spot as rain washes off Kiyovu game

APR FC will go into the Azam Rwanda Premier League match with Mukura on Sunday at Amahoro National Stadium knowing that victory will take them back to the top of the league standing.

This is after the game between league leaders SC Kiyovu and Marines FC on Saturday was washed off by the afternoon heavy downpour after 34 minutes.

Kiyovu are one point ahead of APR and if their game had gone ahead and they won, the ‘Green Baggies’ would have gone four points clear before Sunday fixtures. FERWAFA’S Competitions Committee will meet in 48 hours to decide the new date on which the game will be replayed.

Jimmy Mulisa’s APR, chasing a record-extending 17th league crown, dropped to the second spot with 14 points after playing out a goalless draw with the Police FC on Wednesday.

Mukura, who drew 2-2 against newcomers Miroplast FC on Wednesday are in sixth place with ten points from seven matches.

Looking ahead of today’s game, Mulisa said, “We want to win and go back on top, we’re fully focused on the challenge that Mukura always provides every time they meet APR, it’s important to go into the break on top of the table.”

His opposite number, Christian Francis Haringingo of Mukura noted that, “We expect a very difficult game against APR but we are ready to fight.”

“APR is a strong team and experienced players and my players know that will need to work hard throughout the match and try to minimize mistakes that they commit,” said Haringingo.

Meanwhile, third-placed AS Kigali, who are a point behind APR, will be hoping to win against Etincelles FC at Kigali Stadium and pray that the army side drop points, in this case, Eric Nshimiyimana’s team will go top.

Innocent Seninga’s Police FC, who fourth with 11 points, will face Gicumbi FC at Stade de Gicumbi, seeking to win and close the gap of the leaders.

After Match-day 8, the league will be called off to allow the national team, ‘Amavubi’ prepare for the upcoming CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup set for December 3-17 in Kenya.
