THE national athletics federation (RAF) has suspended its technical director Emmanuel Murenzi and his assistant Eric Karasira for allegedly conspiring to swindle federation funds.

The body’s Secretary General Jacques Ngabonziza confirmed to Times Sport in a telephone interview that the duo had conspired to defraud money during this year’s Kigali International marathon.

“They gave us lists of participants but after thorough checks, we discovered that many of them had been concocted up.

“When their dubious plan was foiled, they threatened to get physical with me so I informed the (executive) committee,” a tough talking Ngabonziza said before adding,

“They have eight days to come clean or risk being sacked.”
RAF head Jean Paul Munyandamutsa added that a definite decision would be taken soon.

Murenzi has meanwhile blasted the federation’s decision insisting that they were framed. I still don’t know were those allegations are coming from,” a confused Murenzi wondered. Murenzi and Karasira have been key members of the athletics federation for the last seven years.

Early this year, Ngabonziza replaced Appollinaire Munyangoga after the latter was sacked for embezzling funds during last year’s Kigali International Marathon.
