I want to hail the new world champions, Spain, for a great World Cup campaign. Although everyone knew that they were among the favourites, the loss to Switzerland certainly dented their confidence.
However they soldiered on and despite the best efforts of Robben and Co. they won the trophy. If you look at the way the team played, their style and the unity in the camp, one can appreciate the new champions.
They didn’t play defensive football, they moved the ball in a lovely manner and in David Villa and Xavi they had probably two of the best players in the tournament.
It would have been a tragedy for football if they had lost to the Dutch.
