Primus League APR 4-1 Etincelles APR sealed this year’s Primus league title in style after yesterday’s 4-1 rout of Etincelles at Nyamirambo’s Regional stadium. The army side finished off the job with two games to play thanks to a second half brace from this year’s Cecafa Kagame Cup top scorer Chikuepo Msowoya and further strikes from Vincent Nyirenda. Former SC Kiyovu play-maker Muhammad Omar scored the Western province side’s consolation to dash the side’s faint hopes of closing in on Atraco who will now finish second.Nyirenda put APR ahead with two goals in the first half and his Malawian countryman Msowoya followed suit with a brace in the second half. Though happy, APR’s Dutch Coach Erik Paske was not surprised by the league win. “It’s fantastic that we have successfully defended our title but I’m not so surprised because we deserved it,” he said.“We worked tirelessly for it.” With the Kagame Cup already in the bag, Paske has now backed his guns to go on and win a treble by lifting the MTN Peace Cup. Should he pull it off, he will be the second coach in the club’s 16-year history after DRC’s Andy Mfutila back in 2007. It was also a good send off for Msowoya who is expected to link up with his new side Orlando Pirates on July 1.The Malawi International’s five-month loan deal ends this month. APR sailed home yesterday without three of their top stars; influential midfielder Jean Baptista Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi, Emmanuel Sebanani Crespo and Albert Ngabo who are still nursing injuries sustained during Amavubi’s 1-0 win over Tanzania on Sunday. APR wrap up their league with games against arch rivals Atraco (June 19) and Rayon Sport (June 22).
