SILVERBACKS still have a lot to do before they can challenge the top sides. The team was exposed when they failed to win a single match in the Safaricom 7s which ended yesterday in Nairobi.

Silverbacks finished last in Group C on Saturday after losing all its matches against Ponsonby 31-0, Hamilton raiders 45-5 and Uganda 26-0. In the Bowl category, the team still found the going hard as they lost 38-0 against Argentina.

Silverbacks caretaker coach Gerald Nsenga now reckons that despite the defeats, there are a lot of positives to carry from the two-day event.

“I think we are the only side who did not have professional rugby players. The caliber of the teams we played against was so high but we did certain things right and should build on that,” Nsenga told Times Sport.

Kenya retained the trophy after seeing off South African club Emerging Boks 17-12. Ponsonby won the Plate Cup after defeating Les Bleu 26-17; Argentina were crowned Bowl champions after seeing off Zimbabwe 14-7, while Hamilton raiders defeated Samurai 36-5 to take the Shield Cup.
