Ernest Sugira and Latif Bishira inspired AS Kigali to a 2-0 victory over Amagaju yesterday in the Azam Rwanda Premier League at Mumena Stadium in Nyamirambo.
Sugira, who netted his fifth goal of the season in eight games to go top of the goal scorers’ log, attributed his feat to his side’s teamwork that has played a big role in remaining unbeaten so far this season.
“I am very glad that I can contribute to the team’s success. We work hard in training and we have to be consistent if we want to remain at the top of the league table standings,” said the delighted Sugira.
AS Kigali sits on top of the log with 18 points from eight games, two ahead of Mukura Victory Sports who handed SC Kiyovu their first loss of the season in 2-0 win at Kicukiro Stadium.
Muhadji Hakizimana and Amani Mugisha were on target for the Huye based side that sits in second position on the table, one point above Rayon Sports who defeated Bugesera courtesy of defender Thierry Manzi’s lone strike at Muhanga Stadium.
Sunrise secured their third win of the season following a 2-1 win over Rwamagana in the highly anticipated Rwamagana derby that saw both sides face off for the first time in the topflight league.
In the other game, Musanze held Marines to a goalless draw at the Tam Tam Stadium in Rubavu.
Meanwhile, league reigning champions APR travel to Gicumbi today in search of victory against a side that defeated them home and away last season, a bogey side.
AS Muhanga host Police at the Muhanga Stadium while Rusizi-based Espoir travel to Rubavu to take on Etincelles at the Tam Tam Stadium.
