RWAMAGANA – Six people who are suspected to have been behind a recent wave of theft in Nyakaliro, Fumbwe and Gahengeri, Rwamagana district were on Thursday arrested and detained at Nzige Police Station.

The suspects are alleged to have been behind a spate of night robberies in which residents lost cash and property.

They were apprehended at around 1.00 am by members of the Community Policing Committees who were on a routine night patrol.

Jean Pierre Mugabe, from Kabuga in Kigali, one of the suspects who was arrested confessed to his role in many past armed robberies, according to Francois Kalisa, the Executive Secretary of Runyinya cell.

However the other four suspects denied being robbers.

“People have been robbed of their money and other belongings… the gang has been unleashing terror on residents,” Kalisa said.

‘These thieves have been involved in organized crimes including robbery. They have created insecurity in the three sectors, where residents fear to go out at night.”

Issa Munyakazi, one of the victims, applauded the news of the robbers being apprehended.

Meanwhile, community Policing Committees said that they have a long list of suspected thugs still at large.
