Bharti Airtel, a leading telecom services provider, has appointed Richard Mugisha the Airtel Rwanda board chairman. Bharti Airtel is the parent company of Airtel Rwanda and operates in 20 countries across Asia and Africa.
Mugisha, a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative and the Aspen Global Leadership Network, is one of the most respected legal professionals in Rwanda and has served in various executive and advisory roles in the country’s public and private sector. He is also a member of the Rwanda Bar Association and the East African Law Society.
Commenting on the appointment, Christian de Faria, the Airtel Africa chief executive officer, said Mugisha is a dynamic business leader, noting that the telecom was privileged that he is going to head its board and help drive its brand in Rwanda. “This is an important chapter for Airtel Rwanda, our youngest market in Africa, where the telecom’s landscape is also evolving quickly. On behalf of the Airtel Africa leadership fraternity, I want to pledge our full support to Mugisha to steer the Airtel business to even greater heights,” De Faria said in statement yesterday.
A seasoned legal professional, Mugisha is currently the managing partner at Trust Law Chambers, a leading law firm in Kigali. He has previously served as chairman of the Business Law Reform Commission and as a member of Rwanda’s National Committee on Regional Integration.
