Eight hotshots have reached the final week of this year’s Big Brother Africa reality TV show. Botswana, until yesterday, one of only two countries still with both of their contestants in the running for the money – along with Zimbabwe –, saw its female hotshots Sheila and Goitse evicted at once from the house after they received one country vote each, South Africa and Botswana, respectively.
As show presenter IK put it last evening, Biggie wanted to ‘clean’ the house. Sheilah and Mozambican rapper Trezagah were the first to leave.
The Bots lass, who has been close to South Africa’s Nhlanhla since her entry into Big Brother House, said she will continue to pursue her acting career while the laid back Trezagah vowed to take his rap music from Portuguese to English in a bid to capitalise on the continental fame had had gained over the past two months.
But just as the viewers were still deliberating about the evicted duo, IK announced that Biggie was not done yet.
He crossed back to the house and evicted Ellah, who had been added on the dreaded list by head of house Macky2, and a surprised Goitse.
The Ugandan beauty queen said that she felt like ‘punching’ the Zambian rapper who added her on the chopping board, but added that she understood it was a game.
Goitse, on the other hand, said she was content with how far she had gone and that it opened up big opportunities for her to pursue her dancing, acting and writing career.
Among the eight hotshots that had been up for eviction was Tayo of Nigeria who received the most votes, including that of Rwanda, his home country Nigeria, Ghana and the Rest of Africa (countries that did not participate in this year’s BBA edition). It’s not clear what could have led Rwandan viewers to give their vote to Tayo but the Nigerian had been one of the hotshots that were close to homeboy Frankie who was evicted five weeks into the continent’s top reality TV show.
Tanzanian ‘playboy’ Idris received his country’s vote as well as Kenya’s and Namibia’s to ensure that he remained in the house with a week to go. Also saved by viewers were Sipe of Malawi and JJ of Zimbabwe.
After evicting the four, it all went down to eight Hotshots remaining to tussle it out for the ultimate prize of US$300 000 during the grand finale. The housemates who have made it to the final week are; JJ (Zimbabwe), Tayo (Nigeria), Idris (Tanzania), Butterphly (Zimbabwe), Macky2 (Zambia), Sipe (Malawi), Nhlanhla (South Africa) and M'am Bea (Ghana) going into the grand finale this coming Sunday.
Unlike in the past weeks during which viewers had been voting for the person they wanted to save, this week Africa will be voting for the person they want to win. The housemate with most votes will win the jackpot. Who do you want to win? Vote through the usual platforms – online, SMS, or WeChat.
How Africa voted
Idris: Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania
Sheillah: South Africa
Sipe: Malawi, Zambia
Tayo: Ghana, Nigeria, Rest of Africa, Rwanda
- Ellah, Goitse, Sheillah and Trezagah received the least number of votes.
- Five housemates tied on one country vote each. The tie-breaker rules, therefore, applied and the four contestants with the lowest percentage vote for all countries were evicted.
