RWANDA CYCLING Federation will this weekend organise another training race which is aimed at preparing Team Rwanda riders ahead of Tour du Rwanda scheduled to run from November 16-23.
The two days competition will bring together the three teams—Team Karisimbi, Team Akegera and Team Muhabura that will represent the country in the UCI-sanctioned race that will cover a total distance of 911.6km.
On Saturday, riders will traverse the new routes on Tour du Rwanda from Amahoro Stadium to Ngoma District (94km) and then on Sunday they will race from Rwamagana to Musanze (151.9km).
“The objective of organising these (training) races is to help our riders to be competitive before the start of Tour du Rwanda. And also riders need to know the routes,” Ferwacy president Aimable Bayingana told Saturday Sport yesterday.
Last weekend, Team Karisimbi dominated the first two-day training race; Team Akagera came in second position while Team Muhabura was third.
Riders raced for 127km from Musanze to Muhanga in the first stage while the second stage from Muhanga to Rubavu covered 138km.
Meanwhile, Ethiopia national team was the first foreign team to arrive in the country ahead of this year’s Tour du Rwanda. The team will be training at Africa Rising Cycling Center in Musanze.
The team arrived last Sunday with five riders namely; Getachew Yohans, Temesgen Mebrhutu, Hadgu Belay, Kubhom Hailay and Fisiha Gebreyohans with Mehari Duruy as head coach and mechanic Gebregiorgis Adahana.
