Women urged to resist polygamy

MUSANZE – Women have been challenged to resist polygamy, and adopt family planning in their families.Speaking to hundreds of rural women in Kinigi sector, Musanze district, who turned up to mark the district Women’s Day celebrations, the Governor of the Northern Province,  Aime Bosenibamwe, noted that many family problems are a result of producing many children and polygamy.

MUSANZE – Women have been challenged to resist polygamy, and adopt family planning in their families.

Speaking to hundreds of rural women in Kinigi sector, Musanze district, who turned up to mark the district Women’s Day celebrations, the Governor of the Northern Province,  Aime Bosenibamwe, noted that many family problems are a result of producing many children and polygamy.

Several men stood up and vowed before the Governor, not to engage in polygamy to the delight of their spouses.
Bosenibamwe said that the government has removed all the barriers barring women from becoming empowered.

“This should be a time to evaluate our achievements, because the problems we are facing are linked to high numbers of children and  polygamy,’’ he said.

The Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, awarded Verena Nyiratabaro Rwf300,000 and a certificate of recognition for her exemplary role in setting up agro-related projects, that employ over 35 workers.

Christine Umuhire, an official from the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion urged women to ensure cleanliness and sanitation in their homes.
