The M-Net Face of Africa competition that came to a glitzy finale last Saturday saw Zambia’s 22-year-old Lukando Nalungwe walk away with the coveted award.
The two-hour finale that was held in Lagos, Nigeria, was screened live in 47 countries all across Africa. The final was themed to resemble the loading warehouse of an art museum.
The night saw the top 10 finalists: Tholakele (Zimbabwe), Lilian (Tanzania), Esperanca (Angola), Thembi (South Africa), Blessing (Nigeria), Rosanna (Zimbabwe), Diana (Kenya), Ernania (Mozambique) and Lukando (Zambia) battle it out for the title of Face of Africa 2010.
The staging included cargo boxes stamped with African destinations with extraordinary sized gold frames along with tape that demarcated the runway from the show’s seated guests while it showcased the fashion and the finalists and was deemed a uniquely fresh approach to showcasing Afro Chic expression.
The entertainment list included Nigeria’s very own D’banj who belted out his hits ‘Suddenly’ and ‘Fall in Love’.
South African songstress Lira showed why she is one of Africa’s rising stars with two brilliant performances of her hits ‘Feel Good’ and ‘Believer’.
The Face of Africa finale included some unmistakable style of Christian Lacroix, Versace and Emmanuel Ungaro with jeweller Chris Aire.
