KIGALI - The Ministry of Infrastructure (Mininfra) has revealed that six districts; Kirehe, Gisagara, Ngororero, Bugesera, Nyaruguru and part of Gicumbi, will be connected to the national electricity grid by April 2010.
“These are the only six districts that did not have any power before – we are now implementing this and the last district to be connected will be Ngororero, in April,” Yussuf Uwamahoro Coordinator of the Energy Sector said.
“The electrification projects are ongoing and almost being implemented at the same time.”
The country’s current electricity access programme looks at increasing access to electricity to at least 16 percent by 2012.
With ongoing projects, at least 13.5 percent is expected to be achieved by 2010.
