CLIFF Owuor is positive his APR guns will scale the heights in next month’s Fiba-Africa Club Championships.
The continent’s premier club championship will be staged at Amahoro’s refurbished indoor stadium from December 10 to 20.
Owuor’s Indomitable lions are making a third appearance in the tournament which attracts clubs from Africa’s top basketballing nations like Angola, Cameroon, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia among others.
From the two appearances, the indomitable lions have made steady progress. After stunning everyone with 9th spot finish on their debut in 2007 (Angola), the lions roared into 8th spot last year (Tunisia) and Owuor reckons that the team will even improve further this year.
“Even without two of our post players; Bienvenue Ngandu (ankle injury) and Abidan Bisankuri (knee injury), we have made good progress in our training sessions,” the former Kenyan International said before admitting that it was high time the team entered residential training.
“That’s one aspect were I feel we are still lagging behind. We should be in camp by now and I’m sure the administrators are doing everything possible in this line.”
Like last year, Owuor expects a very competitive event this year but he claims that he guns are ready and up for the task. He hopes his team will ride on home advantage to better last year’s display.
APR consolidated their superiority on the local scene after winning a treble; the league, play offs and Gisembe memorial tournament.
