After all the festivities and parties that December brought, January is probably a time for sober fun. Having probably spent heavily over the December festivities, January is a time to take it slow, having fun that won’t leave you in debt. Below are some ideal spots and activities one could engage in without spending too much

Karaoke

Micha’s Bistro Café located at Muhima will feature Karaoke and live music tonight. Heaven Restaurant located in Kiyovu features Happy hour nightly from 5pm – 7pm (buy one get one free on wine and local beers). Grill and Barbeque located in Kacyiru after PSI Rwanda has Karaoke from 8:00pm. Entrance is free and there are prizes to be won for the best singers. Those that enjoy strip dancing have not been left out; you can find these every Friday and Saturday at Jorgyz (Vision) just before King Faisal Hospital in Kacyiru.

Hangouts


Meze Fresh Restaurant hosts daily happy hour(s) from 3pm – 6pm and 9pm – 11pm. There’s live music every Friday. In Kiyovu, Republika Restaurant offers Happy Hour discounts on Saturdays only for certain food and drinks and meanwhile you can munch on free bruschetta bread while you wait for your meal. Other hangouts may include, but are not limited to, LG, The Posh, Chapter One, The Dug Out, KGL Fast Food, Joy Time Stone House, Sticky, Rosty’s and African Villa.

Cinema


Century Cinema, located at Kigali City Towers, will throughout the festive season screen various movies. They include, The hobbit: The desolation of Smug , Thor 2: The Dark World,  Black Nativity, Captain Phillips, The Counselor, Bullet Raja, Frozen, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty which premiers on December 27. Entrance fee varies between Rwf3500 and Rwf5000 for screenings in 2D, 3D and 5D and on weekdays and weekend. There’s a special discount for children and students. From Monday to Thursday, 2D movies are Rwf2500 and 3D movies are Rwf3500.

Art

Inema Art Center as always  have its doors wide open for art lovers who wish to appreciate visual art by the two brothers Nkuranga and Nkurunziza, you have a chance to see a wide range of art and even purchase some, you never know, they could be worth a pretty penny some day.

Sport

And for the sports lovers the weekend is packed with soccer from the English Premier League to other European leagues.

Live Bands


La Diagonale de la Rumba, a popular rumba band, will thrill revelers at Greenwich Hotel in Kisimenti this evening through to Sunday evening with renditions of popular rumba tracks and their own compositions.

Sound of Hills will take the stage at Milles Collines on Saturday and Sunday evening from 7pm to 9pm playing renditions of popular jazz, blues and soul tracks and occasionally tracks from their oncoming album.
