Editor, “If you want to change from this bank to somewhere else, you can do that,” a teller of Banque Populaire, Gikondo main branch, on Saturday 29th August told me. My crime was to present my bank-account book with the photo not attached- which he could have easily done because he had a stapling machine on the counter. I was completely denied my right to withdraw my own money by this young man. Some bank staff have to learn that offering services to their clients isn’t a right but a privilege. When things like what happened to me occur, you bankers are the ones who lose...not us the customers because we simply move to other banks. I’m sure his bosses, if they knew about his incompetence, would not be too happy with this young and unprofessional man. I went to the extent of producing my national identity card so that I could access my hard earned money but I was told to come back on Monday! When I went to the Magerwa branch the following day, with my photo still unattached, the lady bank teller simply stapled it and gave me the money. I wonder if it is the difference in bank rules or simply a difference in the level of professionalism between the two employees. The management should endeavour to train its employees on customer care. A disgruntled Banque Populaire client
