According to relationship counselor and author of The 5 Love Languages series, Gary Chapman, we have five fundamental love languages. I agree with him on expressing love within those five love languages. Tell your man everything he wants to hear like, “honey those biceps are awesome,” even when he is as thin as a needle. Or spend quality time with him even when he is fixing his “toys” (car & gadgets), or watching grown men chase after a rubber ball. Perhaps you could pamper him with gifts. The latter would be great as you will send shock waves down his spine when you come home with cologne from DNKY and some boxers and vests. The two major love languages for men are the acts of service and physical touch. Men love to be served - coffee, delicious cuisines, laundry taken care of, shoes and socks totally handled. And every so often, hug him, stroke his back, kiss him or squeeze his hand. Men adore all of this. If you’re consistent, you are investing in getting that same great treatment back. However if you do all the above for the sake of doing it but show no actual respect, then it is all for nothing. He will not notice it and hence not appreciate it or reciprocate the love. If you want him to take you for shopping, open the car door for you, pull a chair for you in the restaurant and be introduced to his friends, the rules of the game are easy, just respect him. The greatest love language of all is respect. Just try it and you will see the magic.
