KHARTOUM - Sudanese army has announced that it liberated the strategic area of Abu Karshula in the South Kordofan State from the rebels of the Revolutionary Front. “The armed forces managed to enter Abu Karshula town and killed over 350 rebels in a recent battle which liberated the strategic town of Abu Karshula in South Kordofan, forcing the remnants of the enemy to flee the area. We are currently carrying out combing operations to clear the area from the rebels,” Sudanese army spokesman Al-Sawarmy Khalid Saad told Xinhua. “The armed forces and the Mujahideen have defeated the rebel forces in a battle that lasted for five hours, leaving more than 350 rebels dead and many others injured,” the deputy coordinator of the People’s Defense Forces, said. He added that the battle would not end with the liberation of Abu Karshula, but would continue until the rebels are repulsed from all locations. In April 2012, the rebel Revolutionary Front Alliance, which brought together the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/northern sector, the Justice and Equality Movement in Darfur as well as the Sudan Liberation Army/Abdul-Wahid Mohamed Nur faction and Minni Minawi faction, attacked Um Rawaba and Abu Karshula areas in North and South Kordofan States.
