The 2023 Women's World Cup takes place in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20. It will be a full month of football action as 32 teams vie for the glittering trophy at stake. Women football has developed massively across the world with the emergence of fantastic talents. Times Sport takes a look at six top players to watch at the 2023 Women's World Cup. Alexia Putellas (Spain) Putellas is a Spanish midfielder who plays for Barcelona in the La Liga Feminine. She has two Ballon d’Or prizes to her name, which she won in 2021 and 2022, as well as the best FIFA best women's player award in 2021/22 and golden player award in 2022. The Spanish skipper is the most decorated player going into the World Cup with 53 individual football awards to her name. Marta (Brazil) Marta Vieira da Silva has earned 174 caps for Brazil scoring 115 goals since 2002. The veteran attacker has seen it all at the top level and this is going to be her fifth, probably her last, women's world cup competition. In the 37-year-old, Brazil have got an experienced forward who can decide the outcome of games on any day. Samantha May Kerr (Australia) The Australian striker has carved a niche for her self at Chelsea as one of the most potent strikers in women's world football currently. An agile forward who has the knack for scoring world class goals, Kerr has banged in 54 goals in 67 games for Chelsea since 2020. Going into the World Cup with Australia on home soil, she could easily finish as the top scorer. Alexandra Morgan (USA) The 34-year-old forward was at the top of her form for San Diego Wave in the 2022 season scoring 20 goals in 28 games. He is among the most capped players in women's world football, having made 207 appearances for US scoring 121 goals. Born in Los Angeles, Morgan is undoubtedly the star to watch in the American team and the World Cup at large. Khadija Shaw (Jamaica) The Jamaican forward plies her trade with the women's team of Manchester City. She was on fire in the 2022/23 season, scoring 31 goals in 30 games. Shaw will lead the Reggae Ladiez as they hope to go all out in the competition. Asisat Oshoala ( Nigeria) The Barcelona attacker is the livewire of the Nigerian female national team. She is the first African female player to win the women's champions league and she was also nominated for the 2022 Balloon d'Or Feminine. The flamboyant striker has netted 29 international goals for Nigeria since 2013. Oshoala is also a five-time Female African footballer of the year award winner.
