Prices for a range of foodstuffs have remained stable across markets visited by The New Times when compared to last week’s rates.A kilogramme of bananas costs Rwf180 in Remera Market, unchanged from last week, while that of beans costs Rwf350 and Irish potatoes at Rwf200fw. A kilogramme of beef also retained at the same cost for last week at Rwf2,000 in Kimihurura Market and millet flour at Rwf1,200. Rice cost Rwf700 per kilo, while sugar goes for Rwf800 per kilogramme in most shops visited in Remera and Kimironko. A kilogramme of fresh fish cost Rwf2,500 and a five-litre jerrycan of cooking oil is going for Rwf6,500.Soap costs Rwf500 a bar and salt was at Rwf300 per kilogramme.Antoinette Umurerwa, a trader in Kimihurura, said prices were stable due to the bumper harvests last month. “The price of rice is stable because we have a lot of rice coming in from Tanzania and Uganda,” Anita Iragena, a trader in Kimironko Market, said.
