Swimmers Cedric Niyibizi and Claudette Ishimwe have started non-residential preparations for the forthcoming World Aquatics championships that will be held in Fukuoka, Japan, from Jul 23-30. The duo entered early preparations under the tutelage of head coach Jackson Niyomugabo. They have begun daily training sessions and they are responding positively. We hope to see them impress in the tournament and we believe these early preparations will help them strengthen their rhythm and get them into the mood for the competition, Rwanda Swimming Federation General Secretary, James Bazatsinda told Times Sport. Ishimwe and Niyibizi have been leading athletes in Rwandan swimming over the past few years and their domestic dominance has consistently been growing year after year. They are representing Rwanda together at the World Aquatics championships for the second time in a row after Abu Dhabi, UAE in 2021. The competition was at the time dubbed ‘FINA World Swimming championships.’ ALSO READ: Trio gears up for Fina World Championship Bazatsinda expressed his confidence in the athletes who, he insists, have potential to improve their performance this year. We are going to prepare the swimmers well ahead of the race, we will let them know what the country expects from them. We are trying to help them to fight for the medals this year, he noted. The World Aquatics Championships - Fukuoka 2023 will take place from 14 to 30 July 2023. The Championships’ concept of “Water Meets the Future” expresses the hope that all the participants will meet the future. The event aims to create the future of aquatic sports through innovative technology, and also create a future for the region by connecting various people. Meanwhile, Rwanda Swimming Federation president Pamela Girimbabazi is expected to attend the general assembly of the World Aquatics Championships which will take place on the sidelines of the tournament.
