Police, Rayon on alert as ES Zarzis release Kagere

Amavubi Stars forward Meddie Kagere has stressed his desire to play in the local league.Kagere has been released by Tunisian Premier League side, Esperance Sportive de Zarzis, five months after signing a two year contract.In an exclusive interview with Times Sport yesterday, Kagere confirmed that he returned back home on Tuesday after the Tunisian side filed for bankruptcy.“I am back in Kigali because my stint in Tunisia has ended. The club has gone bankrupt. I have been struggling ever since I joined Zarzis because I spent months without a salary, never got my sign on fees and I was very much frustrated,” he revealed.“The only option I had was to ask for a release and I am lucky, they did pay me everything they owed me as well as giving me a release letter,” Kagere explains.“I am going to rest a bit before plotting my next move. Since the transfer window is coming to a close, I will try to join any club here in Rwanda as I wait for next season’s transfers that begin in August,” Kagere has been one of the two Amavubi Stars in the Tunisian league. Olivier Karekezi plays for another Tunisian side Bizertin.Kagere signed a two-year deal with the North African side in August from Police at a fee valued at US$150,000. The Uganda-born striker passed trials with Esperance de Zarzis after trotting around the continent, doing trials with South Africa’s Bidvest Wits FC and Pretoria Fc.In Rwanda, Kagere has featured for the now defunct Atraco, Mukura and Police. Amavubi star spent two seasons at Police, scoring 28 goals in the process. Meanwhile, Police and Rayon want the striker in second round of the league to beef up their league chances. The Mayor of Nyanza District, who also doubles as Rayon Sport chairman, Abdallah Murenzi, reaffirmed his interest in the striker to replace Burundian Fiston Abdul Razak who has moved to a yet to be known club in Congo Brazzaville.
