Six-time national football league champions Rayon Sport and Police Fc have expressed interest in signing Meddie Kagere from Tunisia’s Union Sportive de Zarzas.Kagere signed a two-year deal with the North African side in August from Police at a fee believed to be US$150,000. Police and Rayon want the striker in second round of the league to beef up their league chances. A source that preferred anonymity told Times Sport that the goal getter is seeking a move following a pay dispute. According to the source, Kagere is owed three month salary arrears by the Tunisian side. “Kagere is not happy so he wants to rescind his contract and move to another club.” “He is not happy with his club so I think he will come back to Rwanda”Efforts to get a comment from Kagere were fruitless as he could not answer his telephone. The Mayor of Nyanza District, who also doubles as Rayon Sport chairman, Abdallah Murenzi, confirmed his side is in negotiations with Meddie Kagere.“We are still in negotiations, we haven’t agreed anything but we need to sign him but if it can’t happen we will look for another player”. “We are still waiting for his response, he is a good striker, he can help the team to do well in the league”.Before signing for the Union Sportive de Zarzas, Kagere became the centre of attraction when five regional clubs wanted to sign him. Tanzania’s Yanga, Kenyas Gor Mahia, St. George of Ethiopia and APR all chased the 27-year old whose contract with Police FC had ran out. In Rwanda, Kagere has featured for the defunct Atraco, Mukura and Police. The striker also had trials with South Africa’s PSL side Bidvest Wits. Amavubi star spent two seasons at Police, scoring 28 goals in two seasons. In a related development, Rayon are chasing the signature of Bonnie Bayingana from Express Fc of Uganda and Fiston Abdul Razak from LLB Academic of Burundi.
