Noise is noise!On New Year’s Eve, as I watched different countries around the world enter the New Year, other than the fact that I was insanely sober, the church next to my humble abode literally left my mind cluttered with what I assume were hymns though it sounded more like noise. So loud they were, at one point, I toyed with the idea of my earphones and the TV set! Perchance if the songs they sang so enthusiastically were familiar –Christmas carols even - I would have sang along or maybe gone to the church to shout along with them. But no – they had to be a collection of really boring (I’m sorry but it’s the truth) Kinyarwanda songs!Every day, and I mean every day, the individual who yells through a microphone at the Mosque traumatizes me with things I don’t even understand. Must they always shout when calling people for prayer? Are they not dealing with adults who have watches/clocks and therefore know exactly when it is prayer time instead of making me throw a pillow over my ears every 5am?God is great and we should praise Him, I know that, but from what I have read, even HE isn’t too keen about people shouting praises for the whole world to hear. You want to know where I read this, don’t you? Turn to your Bible and you will find it.Now, I know just how great the Lord is, but I am certain that He will still hear my prayers even in a whisper! So what is the entire clamour for really? Why do people think it is okay for churches and other places of worship to deafen people yet when a bar plays its music too loud, it is a problem?Yes, secular music does nothing but poison people’s minds (according to some) and bars have drinks that make people do things they are ‘as if’ not supposed to do and bla bla bla but noise is noise! If you think bars should cut down their racket, I suggest worship houses do the same – starting with that guy who calls people to the mosque every morning! No offense!People in China do not have to hear us pray; neither do the chaps in Barbados have to listen to Gangnam style played in a local bar in Kimihurura. Let’s be fair and work towards diluting the noise pollution in any place – regardless of how significant the place is.
