DJ Adams (Adam Abu-Bakr Mukara) hosts the Lunch Hour Jams on City Radio every weekday from 1:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m. Moses Opobo found out about his passion for Old Skool songs, and why he thinks the computer has killed today’s music…Which is better, Old Skool, or New Skool?Depends on one’s age and tastes, but mainly age, because you can’t talk of Old Skool when you were not there. Fortunately, there are many Old Skool songs that are still gold. Talk of Tupac for hip hop fans. Anyone who is into New Skool also knows he existed. Talk of Snoop Dogg, talk of reggae and there is Bob Marley. You can’t compare any of these guys with what we have today. What does Old Skool music remind you about?It reminds me of what I was then, and who I am now. It helps me evaluate what people call fun now, and what used to be called fun then. Now it’s all about showing off. Those days, people were into reality. Today, someone gets a loan to buy a car just to impress women. Then, you bought a car because you needed a car. 2Pac VS Lil WayneTupac was so into real life. He talked about reality, most of which he personally went through. Lil Wayne on the other hand is just boastful. Tupac never talked about his cars and women, except when it was a diss song. Lil Wayne is there to create commotion. Has the computer improved or killed music?The flavour is lacking in today’s music because it is over computerised. True, a computer has got all music instruments pre-programmed in it, but in the real sense, you can only be a jack of all trades but not a master of all. The computer killed specialization.What’s your philosophy on life?Do not let what you can’t do stop you from doing what you can do.
