Some things are just meant for men Is it me or do these female bishops look strange? If women want to dress up in ridiculous hats, extravagant drapes and carry an air of self importance, more power to them, though I would strongly advise them against it – from a fashion perspective at least!On a serious note, this isn’t about freedom and rights, but rather, about preserving the church in its good old traditional form.The Church of England this week voted against ordaining women bishops, and considering that this church is to the Anglicans like the Papacy is to the Catholics, the vote is likely to be set in stone for all the faithful on the continent.Forty four bishops cannot all be wrong! The bishops voted 44 in favour and three against, while two abstained (89.8 per cent). The clergy voted 148 in favour, 45 against, with no abstentions (76.7 per cent). Let’s respect that decision and move on.I am not the kind of person you may call religious, although I believe in God. I honestly do not believe that we can find God in organized religion. I am not even sure He wants us to find him… but anyway, back to the point.The church is not the government! Let’s get this clear. The church is religious, based on faith in a supernatural creator, saints and spirituality. Unlike modernity and state governments which believe that man and woman are equal, the Bible, the Anglican holy book, teaches that women must be subordinate to men. Quite unfair I know, but look on the bright side; this is only in church and not in your homes!It certainly doesn’t mean that men are allowed to mistreat women; rather, it organizes society and puts everyone in their place. If anything, from the few bible scriptures I have laid eyes on, especially in the New Testament, Jesus was kind to women all over. But there was a reason His 12 apostles were all male, and maybe only He can tells us that reason. For now let us assume that Jesus set the tone and path for the church to follow. Women are a vital part of the church, like the faithful who followed Jesus along with his disciples, but they are simply not built for priesthood. You ask why again? Just believe by faith, that’s it. And if you are an atheist or an anti-Christian, you have no business criticizing the church for standing their ground.Therefore, if anybody claims to be religious, there is no other way but to adhere to the rules and norms in their church.The church doesn’t provide answers for everything it does and it doesn’t even have to anyway. As a matter of fact, the day it starts to provide satisfactory answers to everything it does, it will lose its significance as a “faith based institute.”
