Yes, for entertainment’s sake Okay, I wasn’t there but I hear Miss Rwanda was a success and by success I mean a lot of people attended. Judging by the posts I read online, what wasn’t so successful was the way in which the contestants seemed kind of – how can I say this politely– blonde!I think it has ceased being a stereotype that pretty girls are daft. Apparently, these girls dished out answers so perturbing that how they got to university is a mystery! One girl was asked what era in history she would have liked to live in and why - she courageously said the 1994 Genocide era, so she could tell her kids about it! I think in her mind – being present during the Genocide is like watching a horror movie! How else can one say something so silly? Had I been present at this event I would have literally rolled on the floor laughing. How is that not entertaining? I know ignorance is not funny (especially when you are at university studying something as serious as law) but in this case it is. Regardless of the idiocy, I think the government should continue to fund this event for the sake of entertainment!The truth is Rwanda is a very boring country, sorry but its true. The entertainment here is as depressing as death row. The only thing I hear about is gorilla trekking and naming –not that is boring but we need more! Rwandans need to take a chill pill and start having some fun. Correct me if I’m wrong -but how is watching girls modelling around in cute outfits and saying silly things in order to be named most beautiful in the country not fun? Everything entertaining is some kind of taboo here or frowned upon. People outside Rwanda are under the impression that everything is just so uptight here - I have friends who ask me if bars close at 9pm! We need this – plus, I really don’t see what the fuss is about – so there are girls walking around in bikini’s –big deal! Do people here go swimming in tracksuits?It’s simple entertainment and I insist on this because with the answers some of these girls lashed out, Miss Universe is a bit farfetched. Reading an artcle by one of the people behind Miss Rwanda, I realised that these girls actually do a lot in boot camp – but how much are they working towards making them a little smarter?Maybe this is why so many people have rubbished the pageant and insist that it is a waste of time and money. It wouldn’t be such a waste if they were beautiful in every aspect and that includes upstairs! But I think after three years of not having a pageant, now that it’s here, let’s take it a little further and see what the future will bring.Rwandans are already blessed with outer beauty so if we could just get smarter girls to contest maybe that will strengthen Rwanda’s shot at Miss World pageants. However, as far as entertainment goes, we need this. I know the government has better things to invest in than chicks’ posing in swimsuits but Miss Rwanda competition deserves a chance. It might not look so promising now but have some faith people. This is Rwanda – we always get better and better
