Care International yesterday launched a programme to extend sexual, reproductive and maternal health services to the historically marginalized people.The project will benefit people from three sectors of Kibeho, Ruramba and Rusenge in Nyaruguru district.Agnes Mukamana, a programme manager at Care International said that the policy action and learning Initiative (PALI) project dubbed “Amizero Project”, is expected to benefit at least 25,000 women.“Our decision to first deal with the population in Nyaruguru based on the health indicators that prove that there are more marginalized people in the district compared to other areas,” Mukamana said.She explained that the two-year project will cost $200,000 and will also include research activities.Mukamana also called on other organizations to join the fight saying there are many marginalized people who need support. Speaking during the launch, the Mayor of Nyaruguru district, François Habitegeko, said the project will supplement current government efforts to sensitise and encourage the population, especially mothers, to seek medical services.
