International Trade Centre is training stakeholders in the horticulture sector to make Rwanda competitive on world market. The training comes at a backdrop the country is positioning the horticultural sector to be a leading non traditional export foreign exchange earner. Eric Buchot, a market expert with ITC-UN said the tailor made training is to equip stakeholders with market research tools and making profiles. Market profiles are concise reports on export products and elements of trade information required to penetrate best a markets. These include trade trends, market developments, regulations prices and packaging. ‘‘These market tools will help Rwandans to identify new importers of their products. Rwanda needs to diversify her export trends,” he said. He said that 99 per cent of Rwandan flowers are exported to Netherlands. Advising, Rwanda should identify other importers of her products citing US, UK, China and Japan. “Going global is a big step for many countries that are only familiar with domestic markets,” Buchot said.
