That is so wrongFor most people in our modern-capitalism world, money is the first thing, and sometimes the only thing that measures success in their life. Our idea of success is people like Bill Gates. Well in truth, he is successful but there are other ways to measure success. I know money buys power, fame and sometimes even life but let us look at success from another perspective. One important thing that defines success in our lives is our careers. Take athletes for example – Usain Bolt’s success comes from winning sports events, breaking records and competing in the Olympics. Researchers and scientists measure their success by their researches - one line of formula that can prove their theory is true can be great success in their life. The above two statements are my way of trying to detach you from this money-is-everything bluff that is eating away at people’s minds like a deadly virus.The way the world is now, I imagine humans are all zombies and money is that scarce alive and fresh person we are all dying to devour. The hunger we have for this fresh person will control everything we do, but even if we eventually find him and feast on him, it will not bring us the satisfaction we expected. (This is not a farfetched illustration if you enjoy zombie movies).Like the above, money is just the same; people go to extra lengths to get it because they think it will brand them successful. You will certainly buy a nice house, but it will not guarantee a happy home - and call me crazy - but a miserable home cannot be called a success. As a journalist, I think of success depending on the stories I’ve written and how many people visit my blog to read them. A writer would think of success as having a best seller or getting their work published in a magazine. Sometimes it only takes accomplishing one’s wishes or dreams to be successful in life. So it does not matter if you won the world championships or a local tournament, worked in the biggest company in the country or set up your own small company. If it is your dream then you have already succeeded in life.Happiness is not something you can postpone because it’s a choice everyone has to make, and the earlier the better. For example, some people say that they will be truly happy when they get a nice high paying job, but when they finally get it, they realize that well, there’s more to life than just a good salary.Our biggest goal in life should be; living peacefully and happily. Being the richest man in the world does not mean you are the happiest man in the world – although the fact that you have money gives you one less thing to worry about. The reason why many people think they are failures is because they want more money and their lust for it has blinded them so much that they have forgotten the simple but most important aspects of life like family, love and friendship.When such people become financially successful, they think they have conquered the world and dismiss even the people who love them; then this boastfulness and self-important attitude scratches at their hearts when they realize that they are alone.Regardless of life’s troubles, be happy, joyous and contented with what you have. @RushAfrican on Twitter
