Not a gold digger – just high maintenance

It really beats my understanding how some men willingly shower women with cash, dry them off with expensive gifts then later label them gold-diggers.Last Saturday, I treated myself to a cup of Café Bombón at Idols Nest, a new tavern in Kigali. I was reading a local tabloid and I couldn’t help but notice a group of beautiful ladies having a good time just feet away from me.Judging by the clothes they wore, the phones they held and the drinks they ordered, these girls were high maintenance! Out of nowhere, a woman seated somewhat next to me tapped me on the shoulder and told me looks were deceiving. I suppose she saw me stare at the girls and read my mind. ‘What do you mean?’ I asked her. I mean I have seen ‘low class’ people hit the jackpot in suspicious ways other than winning the lottery but these girls looked every bit classy. “I can tell a cheap person even if they came covered in Christian Dior,” said the woman. She insisted that if I took a closer look, I would see that they weren’t at all as classy as they seemed to be. I glanced at them – hoping they didn’t catch me staring. Even though I’m not an expert in women’s attire, after taking a closer look, I could tell their clothing was straight from a second hand market! They were just good at putting it all together and topping it with chunky jewelry -looking as glamorous as Kimora Lee Simons (well not exactly).“It’s true,” she said. “Something about them doesn’t add up!” She was right, but I was still intrigued with the fact that they ordered their own expensive drinks. “Well, that is simple,” said my mysterious friend. “They are gold diggers. They must be waiting for some rich guy to come pay for their drinks or better still, they already got the money they needed from the rich guy.” If a man wants to spoil a woman then whose problem is that? It is a very simple situation that doesn’t need rude labels. If you do not want to spend, do not go out with girls who look like they just came off the cover of Vogue! Get yourself a girl who won’t have a fit because you can’t take her for the buffet at Serena!As a guy, make yourself as comfortable as possible and live within your means. Get the high maintenance girlfriend only if she can keep herself that way. It’s wrong to call anyone a gold digger when most of the time, it is these very men spoiling them rotten.
