Two years enough to prove myself, says Micho

AMAVUBI Stars’ head coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojević claims he has the ability to prove his doubters wrong in two years, despite his team recording terribly poor results in recent matches in 2014 World Cup and 2013 AFCON qualifiers.June proved to be a nightmare month for both Micho and Amavubi, who were denied a place in third round of AFCON qualifiers after a 2-0 defeat by Nigeria. The setback came at the back of a trashing by Algeria 4-0 and a home draw to Benin (1-1) in WC 2014 qualifiers group H matches. Both the minister of Sports and Ferwafa officials came out to manifest their support to Micho, stating that the Serb coach is the right man for the job and his so far doing a good job of promoting young talents in the senior team.“….the two years I have [on my contract with MINISPOC] are enough for me to put into practice what I stated in my project I handed to the ministry,” said the Serb, who took over the reign from Ghanaian Sellas Tetteh last October.‘’Look, I don’t make empty promises, wherever I’ve been…. whether it is in Uganda, Ethiopia, or Tanzania, there are roots of good results of my work. If I put into work my project, I except the same results here in Rwanda,’’ added Micho, who coached clubs in those three countries. Sports and Culture Minister Protais Mitali recently confirmed that one of Micho’s major tasks is to facilitate the stepping up of the youngsters into the senior team, and the former SC Villa, Yanga and St. George coach believes he is the right man to do the job.The 42-year old claims to have 8 players, who grew under his guide in the current Ethiopian team that top Group A of the 2014 WC qualifiers. He also state that he facilitated several Ugandan players to play in European leagues, adding, “the best player Tanzania has had is Mrisho Ngasa, I picked him from the street and developed him.”Micho thinks he can replicate the same result here in Rwanda in two years time to enable the team compete at the highest level. After two years, the insight is put on AFCON 2015 and the Olympic games in 2016.“In my project, I expect my team will be at its pick in two years, and be able to deliver good results in 2015 at the AFCON and 2016 in Olympic Games qualifiers,” explained the former Orlando Pirate coach.Micho, who signed a two-year contract last year, presented his project to the Minister of Sports last week on Wednesday.Among the key points in Micho’s project is to develop talented players and assist them in search for exposure in European leagues as well as increasing the number of international friendly matches for the national teams outside the CECAFA region to remove fear factor for the Amavubi players.It is expected that FERWAFA and the MInistry of Sports and Culture will sit to discuss on the project in a near future.
