Results Bugesera 2-0 Les LionnesRambura 0-0 ESIRThe Winners 1-1 UrumuriAPR 3-0 InyemeraAPR yesterday climbed to the summit of the women football league for the first time this season after defeating Inyemera 3-0 at Ferwafa grounds.The military side looked the more threatening side in the early minutes when Ugandan player Annet Nakimbugwe put them ahead after 11 minutes .APR dominated the proceedings and the tall, lanky striker completed her hat trick in the second half to seal Inyemera’s fate. The 2008 champions now have a one point cushion over rivals AS Kigali although the Kigali City Council side which has won the crown for the last three years have 3 games in hand.APR coach Egidia Kayitesi says their rivals can slip up and has challenged his players to go on winning spree if they are to win the title. In other games, The winners were held to a 1-1 draw by Urumuri while Bugesera beat Les Lioness 2-0.Eleven clubs, including APR, Inyemera, Remera Rukoma, The Winners, Rambura, Nyarugenge, Imirasire, ESIR, AS Kigali, Bugesera, Les Lionness and the National University of Rwanda (NUR), are taking part in the six month league basis competition.Rwanda is the only East African country with a functioning women football league but according to Felicite Rwemarika, the chairman of the national women football league more sponsors need to come on board to make the league exciting.“We depend on FIFA money to run the league, which is not enough considering the number of teams in the league, our prayer is for sponsors to come on board and partner with us.” Rwemarika said.FIFA dispenses USD 250,000 a year to Ferwafa of which Rwf 26m is given to the women league.
