As part of Mother’s Day celebrations, BPR Bank Rwanda management has invested in medical insurance for both staff and families of Inema cleaning company. The development, BPR Bank said, follows Earth Day activities held on April 21, where BPR Foundation recognized their efforts of maintaining and protecting the environment in Kigali. The bank also provided capital for infrastructure development to Girubuzima Matimba Cooperative, an association based in Matimba, in Nyagatare District, Eastern province. Founded by 20 women, the cooperative currently manufactures and sells cooking and skin care products. We are excited about continuing our partnership with the City of Kigali and Inema Cleaning Company. Today’s contribution toward medical insurance of the cleaning staff and their families, is a small token of our appreciation to the daily hard work that goes into keeping Kigali City’s environment clean and pristine,” said Patience Mutesi, the Managing Director BPR Bank Rwanda. The Foundation offers support in five thematic areas in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs): enterprise development, environment, education, health, and humanitarian intervention. These community development initiatives are not one-time activities, but rather fundamental partnerships with economically disadvantaged individuals in Rwanda. We believe this will empower women and men in various sectors, ultimately driving self-sufficiency in local communities,” Mutesi added. The foundation has undertaken various corporate social responsibility initiatives since its inception, such as supporting schools and hospitals, training youth entrepreneurs, providing livestock, electricity, medical insurance to communities and taking care of the environment and so much more. The Foundation’s flagship project is IGIRE, a youth empowerment program that has up-skilled 500 youth and provided seed capital for over 40 businesses to date.
