Ssessegnon admits Benin ‘lucky to get a point’

BENIN and Sunderland star Stéphane Sessegnon was left pleased with a point against Amavubi but believes they were robbed of the victory with a late penalty for the hosts.Rwanda scored late through Bokota Labama’s penalty after Razak Omotoyossi put ahead the visitors with a 73rd minute strike in Sunday’s 2014 World Cup qualifier in Kigali.“We are not happy for this result but we got one point which is good in this kind of competition,” said the Squirrels captain, who didn’t assert any authority on the game.But the Sunderland striker was not happy with Amavubi’s penalty that came with five minutes to go and Bokota dispatched it two minutes later after protests from the visitors which even resulted into a red card for defender Jordan Adeoti.Bokota, who came on for Olivier Karekezi, advanced into the penalty area and the Ethiopia referee Bamlak Tessema Weysa adjudged Adeoti to have bundled the Rayon Sports striker down.“I feel that it shouldn’t have been a penalty since the Rwandan striker was offside but we accept the referee’s decision since it is final,” added Sessegnon.“We never had a good game though we tried to play by the coach’s instructions; our output upfront was not so satisfying,”“We got a goal deep in the second half and our opponents equalised but considering the way they dominated the game, I think we were lucky not to concede a second and we’re satisfied with the draw,”Benin lead Group H with four points after two games. Algeria is second with a superior goal difference over Mali in third position while Rwanda is bottom of the table with one point.
