The death of the Rwandan international player Patrick Mafisango shocked not only those who knew him personally, but the football fraternity across Africa and beyond.The Amavubi Stars midfielder passed shortly after a road accident in the early hours of Thursday morning in Dar es.Mafisango wore the national team shirt with pride and it showed whenever he stepped on the field.He was nicknamed “Patriotic” by the fans because of his commitment not only to the national team but for APR and Atraco, the two local clubs he played for before joining Azam Fc in the Tanzania Premier League, when Atraco was dismantled in 2009.Mafisango’s skill as a football player and his charming personality had earned his recognition from local, regional, continental and international football fraternity.The player’s sudden death came barely two days after he had been called to the national team squad that is preparing for the start of 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil qualifying campaign, which kicks off next month.Let us take time to honor and celebrate the young talent gone too soon.May his soul rest in peace.
