I used to think the only thing that could make me up and leave my spouse without a thought was if he hit me. I say now, a gambler would definitely send me packing because when he’s done gambling everything he owns; he might gamble me!From when we were kids, we learned that gambling is bad. We learned that gambling has ruined so many happy homes. And whereas some of the things we were made to believe were bad proved to be a little harmless when we grew up, gambling was, is and will always be an unnecessary evil! I understand what happens in the casino is called gaming - call it what you want, if that will make you feel better. But it is still gambling!Sure, some people have had luck at it and become over night millionaires. But that is all there is to it – plain luck! Yet even after winning a couple of thousands or millions, the gambler will still go back and stake the new winnings in a bid to win even more! It‘s a good thing luck doesn’t hang around all day (what a boring world it’d be) because some people need to know when to quit.Foolishly, even after losing everything they just won moments before, they will stake whatever else they’ve got. People who say it is alright to gamble or that gambling is good, what do they base it on? This vice is only good for the government maybe. We see many governments around the world building one casino after another and then legalizing the activity. They wouldn’t do that unless they had some sort of benefit.It brings income. Nobody likes to pay taxes, that’s’ a fact. But when people line up to pay for a lottery ticket under the sizzling sun, they are queuing up to pay taxes to the government! Casinos make a lot of money; imagine how much of that money goes to their respective governments. From what I can see, save for the government, it is only good for the casino share holders, the employees of the casino and related hotels and restaurants. It is also good for the winners but naturally there are more losers than winners. For every gambler who wins, another million or so lose! As an individual, gambling can only spell one thing – DOOM! I may not have as much insight into the whole matter as I’d want but I know enough to call it what it truly is – evil. So evil it is that it leaves even the most respected of people gambling their houses and children’s college funds just because they can’t quit! It promotes greed because the ones who win are never satisfied. They always want more. And there is really nothing wrong with wanting more, but if that ‘more’ puts you at risk of losing everything you have ever worked for and the people closest to you, it just isn’t worth it.When a gambler wins, someone else will think winning is easy and the thought of ‘easy money’ pushes them into pumping in more money! A true addict will gamble regardless of whether he is in a casino or not. Life is all about taking risks that’s true but gambling is an unnecessary risk. So many people gamble all their life and die without a penny to their name. I’d like to say that if people could control themselves then it would be okay but that’s just wishful thinking because a true gambler has no control whatsoever. He will sell whatever he owns including his soul, just to get enough to go gamble again! I think that for the good of the people (and not just the gambler), it should be abolished. But that’s just my opinion! Closing down casinos may not be such a smart idea seeing as they have created a lot of jobs for people but there has to be another way. There always is.
