Let kids be kids!One thing people are always rioting for or making a point about is their rights. Adults seem to think they are the only ones with rights! What about children? Don’t they have the right to make their own decisions about how they want to live their life?Some people will ask, what do children know about life? Some chap pointed out to me that if that were the case, they might as well have their own houses and take care of themselves. Pretty shallow! Just because children have the right to pick their future doesn’t mean they ought to take care of themselves too.Back in 1990, a little girl called JonBenét Ramsey was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She was enrolled by her mother in a series of beauty pageants in different states. Personally, I have never thought of beauty queens as some sort of profession, I imagined it was something someone did then moved on to more serious things.Cleary her parents wanted her to become some kind of supreme beauty queen, winning various titles in various states. And maybe she would have, had she not been murdered at the age of six! There was suspicion pointing towards her parents but nothing solid was ever found save for a ransom note and physical evidence that suggested the presence of an identified person where the body was found. She was struck in the head and strangled.I can’t even begin to imagine who would do that to anyone more so a six year old. My guess is that it was probably some deranged, child molesting fan! During her awfully short life, she never got to play with other kids or do things other kids do. She was a child for Pete’s sake. She had no business living a life of make up, jewelry and fancy costumes. Her only job should have been playing princess with her best friend! And to think that she was brutally taken without having the chance to be a kid simply appalls me. Music genius Michael Jackson seemed to rock peoples’ worlds –well that was until he started dangling babies over balconies! As a child MJ, didn’t have the luxury to play with toy cars or play cops and robbers with other kids. He was way too busy making music that made him the legend he is today. He was the youngest member of the all – brother group, Jackson Five. His father kept him buried in music, pushing him further than he was supposed to. So messed up his childhood was that when he grew up, he was what I’d call a man-child, hence the child luring Neverland ranch and the strange love for boys. I do not believe he ever molested anyone; he was a lonely man who probably just wanted a fraction of his childhood back. Drew Barrymore started her career when she was eleven months old. She quickly became one of Hollywood’s most recognised child actors. She then went on to smoke cigarettes at age 9, drink alcohol by the time she was 11, smoke marijuana at 12, snort cocaine at 13 and enter rehab at the same age too. A suicide attempt at age 14 put her back in rehab! Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin was in and out of rehab for drug abuse and after also got married. All this happened before his 18th birthday! Right now, the Smith kids are enjoying the spotlight but how long will it be before we hear that Jayden Smith was arrested for drunk driving or that Willow was caught with pounds of weed in her car? I’m not saying it happens that way all the time, but the pressure in Hollywood to be the best is enough to drive these kids to measures they never would have dared to reach. Let kids be kids. That is their only duty!
