Not in the leastI, in actual fact, do not get people who claim to have mad love for each other but then wait for Valentine’s Day to show it. Much as I know romance is important in a relationship, I have a problem with the fact that focus is limited to one day in a year.I don’t know about men, but women need that love thing going on literally everyday. How depressing is it to wait in anticipation for one day in year for some romance? Contrary to popular belief, you can show love without spoiling someone with gifts. Letting each other or the people in your life know how much you love them even through a simple text is enough. If you have been silent all year you and most likely even out of reach, of what relevance is some love card on Valentine’s Day?As far as I am concerned, romance should be ongoing -it should not be on Valentine’s Day that we get to see any sort of gesture/action from our spouses or loved ones. For couples, if your romance is already hot and heavy then, Valentine’s Day shouldn’t really make a difference.Seriously, if someone really cared about you, you’d here it more often than once a year, don’t you think? This business of exchanging gifts as if you do not have other days of the year to do that is just boring! If it weren’t a holy day of obligation for anyone within a 50-mile radius of a fuzzy stuffed heart to run out and buy it for their better half, I might view it differently.We all love gifts. But it is gifts from the heart that matter the most, not some ‘thing’ you picked from the local store out of obligation! Gifts on Valentine’s Day are nothing more than a little something to say that you have held up your end of the bargain and fulfilled your duties.I was walking through a mall once, looking at all the silly attempts to attract more business from a day that should not even be considered special by the furthest stretches of imagination in outer space! There was just red and black all over the place with heart shaped balloons popping out of every shop. It was so irritating, to say the least!There was this guy running up and down the place with a teddy bear twice his size looking for other things to go with it. I can’t even begin to explain to you how ridiculous he looked. Like seriously, bring me that teddy on a day I least expect it and trust me, it will mean a lot more. Even better, buy me a book or DVD of my favorite movie, any day, instead of some stuffed animal that is probably going to take up most of the space in the room!I am not saying people should stop the whole fuss with Valentine’s Day. If you have the time, by all means, knock yourself out. I just don’t see the relevance in it all. It is a complete waste of time and certainly, the perfectly great space in your room does not need to be cluttered with childish teddy bears. If there is a women’s day, it is only fair that there be a men’s day too though a colleague was kind enough to point out to me that everyday is men’s day, save for women’s day! Wow!Let everyday be about love. Use every opportunity to show your loved ones just how much they mean to you. Life is short and it won’t wait around for some silly day in a year for you to express your love. Do it now, tomorrow and pretty every other day for the rest of your life. Now that’s love.
