Kwibuka 29: Rwandans in Côte d’Ivoire commemorate Genocide against the Tutsi

The Rwandan Community in Côte d’Ivoire supported by Rwanda’s High Commission in Ghana through the Honorary Consulate in Abidjan gathered on April 8, to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in an event held in Cocody District, Abidjan. Speaking at the event, Rwanda’s Honorary Consul in Cote d’Ivoire, Stephanie Richmond, called upon leaders, citizens and all friends of Rwanda to continue to stand together against any form of Genocide denial, negation and impunity by working together to uphold truth and justice. ALSO READ: There is no hiding place from facts of our history – Kagame The deputy speaker of the Ivorian parliament, Mamadou Diawara, who represented his government expressed solidarity with the people of Rwanda during the 29th commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. The commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi provides a platform to remember the lives lost, show solidarity with survivors and unite to ensure such tragedy never happens again in Rwanda or elsewhere in Africa and beyond. Rwanda has over the last few decades been firm on the protection of civilians in any armed conflict including many where the country has been a troop contributor and calls upon the world to always stand with targeted communities and prevent genocide before it is too late like was the case when Rwandans were abandoned by the International Community in 1994.
