Dear Editor, I would like to ask the residents living within Gishwati and Nyungwe forests to work hand-in-hand with authorities as their eviction process is being implemented. The move is for the good of the country and intended to develop Gishwati Forrest Reserve into a national conservation park. According to Frank Rutabingwa, the head of national forestry project (PAFOR), it is one of the appropriate ways to come to the rescue of species threatened by human activities in the area. And above all, the PAFOR efforts also aim at creation of protected forest tracts, which will help local people to start-up low-income activities like nature based tourism. This is because generating income through ecotourism, investment opportunity and local employment is anticipated to change people’s livelihood while backing lives of wildlife in the area. Kimironko
